Nepal to host conference to address growing violence against women and girls

KATHMANDU, March 14: Nepal will host international conference ‘Resonating from South Asia to the world: global norms address violence against women and girls’ from March 15 to March 16 in Kathmandu.

KATHMANDU, March 14: Nepal will host international conference ‘Resonating from South Asia to the world: global norms address violence against women and girls’ from March 15 to March 16 in Kathmandu.


The conference will bring together diplomats, subject matter experts and frontline experts from Nepal, India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka to examine existing and prospective solutions to gender-based violence.

The two-day conference will have discussion on various issues such as climate change and violence, COVID-19 and the increase of violence, implementing cross system approach to tackle gender-based violence, governmental and non-governmental response to violence against women and girls, among other issues. 


Sponsored by Indrani’s Light Foundation, the conference will have delegates such as Dr Vandana Shiva, an Indian scholar, environmentalist and gender right activist, Ferdous Ara Begum, former CEDAW committee member and HelpAge trustee (Bangladesh), Dr Aliya Khan, gender specialist and Aurat Foundation Board of Governors members (Pakistan), Meera Khanna, writer and gender right activist (India), Sapana Pradhan Malla, Supreme Court Justice (Nepal) among others.


The conference is organized jointly by Women NGO Federation Nepal, National Human Rights Commission of Nepal, National Women’s Commission of Nepal and Every Women.
