Wall of Hope Campaign in partnership with Human Rights Film Focus Nepal and Palincha Nepal organized a campaign Youth Speak Out, launched on December 10, 2020 and is going to conclude on March 8 on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
Stop saying, ‘it’s normal'
According to a press statement released by Human Rights Film Focus Nepal, the project aims at giving a unique opportunity to give voice to the young people who often feel that they don't have a voice in addressing various forms of violence impacting many of them on a daily basis.
A total of 2,500 students from 22 districts have participated in the national speech competition held under the campaign where the winners will be announced on the closing ceremony of the campaign on March 7.
The youth were tasked with first researching an issue related to violence against women, and then creating a 1-2 minute speech that addresses that issue. School principals judged the speeches from their schools and then forwarded the best speeches on to Youth Speak Out coordinators.
In the process, schools were provided access to the student resources, sample speech videos, and one-to-one interactions were offered to schools that needed orientation. Many schools organized an intra-school competition or a sharing session before submitting the best speeches from their schools.
A select panel of judges that includes— Dr Anita Dhungel and Lex Limbu —has chosen 20 "best of the best," who will be honored at a special ceremony on March 7, at Attic, Gyaneshwor.
It added that in the event it will formally announce that the speeches will be featured as Youth Speak Out Radio Series, which will be broadcasted on radio channels spread over seven provinces of Nepal.
