Nepalgunj: NC’s Bista elected as mayor with twice as many votes as his rival

NEPALGUNJ, May 20: Prashant Bista of the Nepali Congress (NC) and Kamaruddin Rai of the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) have been elected the mayor and deputy mayor of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City.

NEPALGUNJ, May 20: Prashant Bista of the Nepali Congress (NC) and Kamaruddin Rai of the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) have been elected the mayor and deputy mayor of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City.


Bista received 23,460 votes and defeated his closest rival CPN-UML's Pashupati Dayal Mishra who got just 11,675 votes, according to the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer.

There is a difference of 11,785 votes between Bista and Mishra. Nandalal Vaishya of RPP, who finished third in the mayoral race received 7,598 votes.


Similarly, Kamaruddin Rai of Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) has been elected as the Deputy mayor of the sub-metropolis. He received 17,950 votes.


Shantidevi Dhakal from the CPN-UML polled 10,915 votes. There is a difference of 7,035 votes between Rai and Dhakal. Bindu Chartimagar of RPP has received 10,135 votes. In the Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan election, the ruling five-party alliance had fielded a common candidate while the CPN-UML and RPP fought alone.
