Nepalgunj's hot air being studied

KATHMANDU, July 22: A study on the temperature and hot air of Nepalgunj has been started. Nepalgunj Sub-metropolitan City office has started taking necessary steps to reduce the rising temperature and studying its effects.


In a workshop on hot air organized by the Nepal Red Cross Society in the district, mayor of the Sub-metropolitan City, Prashant Bista said that a study on 'heatwave' is being conducted in the hottest city of Nepal and based on the study report, the work will proceed in a planned manner.

He mentioned that the sub-metropolis is committed to reducing hot air and said that the cooperation of the people is necessary. In the workshop, the findings of the research study conducted last year by the Red Cross Society focusing on Nepalgunj regarding hot air were presented. In the workshop, a presentation was made about the wards with high temperature in Nepalganj, the wards and groups in danger due to hot air, the activities done to reduce the effects and the initiatives that can be taken in the future to reduce the temperature.


Most of the participants of the workshop said that the local government should show proactivity to reduce the impact of the 'heatwave', protect ponds and lakes, and plant trees in open areas. Chairman of Red Cross, Gobardhan Singh, while discussing 'heatwave', said that Red Cross will help in capacity building of the community. Director of the Disaster and Crisis Management Department of Red Cross, Vipul Neupane said that the report of 'heatwave' has been prepared based on the discussion on 'heatwave' and the data provided by the government agencies.


The Red Cross has said that public awareness activities have been conducted through the 'heatwave' response program which is being conducted in Nepalgunj. Consultant Ashma Subedi presented a study report and UNICEF's Naresh Nidal presented a community level study report on the urban disaster and earthquake preparedness project.
