KATHMANDU, Oct 26: The Nepali Army has been entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the security detail for United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres during his upcoming visit to Nepal.
The government has assigned command responsibility to the Nepali Army to ensure high-level security for the Secretary-General's visit, with coordination between the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Scheduled for a four-day visit commencing on October 29, Secretary-General Guterres is visiting Nepal at the invitation of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal. His visit was initially planned for October 13 to 15 but was postponed due to the Hamas attack on Israel that occurred on October 7. Secretary-General Guterres is expected to address a joint session of the Federal Parliament on October 31.
Antonio Guterres, a former Prime Minister of Portugal who served from 1995 to 2000, is currently in his second term as the United Nations Secretary-General. He first assumed the role in 2016. Nepal has previously hosted other UN Secretaries-General, including Dr. Kurt Waldheim and Javier Pérez de Cuéllar during the 1970s and 80s, and Ban Ki-moon in 2008.
