KATHMANDU, Dec 18: The rival factions of the Nepali Congress have almost reached a consensus regarding increasing the number of party office bearers to 12 in the new set up from the current six, sources said on Tuesday.
The NC leaders forged the consensus on the amended party charter during the ongoing Mahasamiti meeting being held at a party palace in the capital.
“The number of officer bearers of the party will be increased to 12 from the current six,” a senior leader of the party told Republica Online.

According to the leader, there will be one president, three vice presidents, three general secretaries, four joint general secretaries and one treasurer. The nomination of the Central Working Committee members is another bone of contention between Deuba and Poudel factions.
Earlier, a task force led by NC General Secretary Purna Bhadur Khadka had submitted a draft of the new party charter in line with the federal set up.
The NC leaders are sharply divided over the number of elected office bearers and those to be nominated by the party president. Sources said that eight will be elected and four will be nominated by the party president of the total 12 office bearers.
Around 1700 delegates have been attending the NC jamboree that began on Saturday. The meeting is expected to continue for the next few days as leadership are divided over the provisions of amending the party statute.
Earlier, NC General Secretary Shashank Koirala presented the organizational report while Treasurer Sitadevi Yadav submitted the fiscal report, and Joint General Secretary Prakash Sharan Mahat the economic proposal. The Mahasamiti members deliberated on the three documents on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday amid hullaballoo. NC Vice-president Bimalendra Nidhi had tabled a political report, on Saturday.
