Nepali diaspora in Hong Kong extends support for fire victims

TERATHUN, March 3: Terathun – Hong Kong Forum has extended economic support for the families suffering physical losses during the massive fire that ripped through the Sankranti Bazaar more than two months ago.


Forum member and social worker, Shantsagar Phombo, took stock of the areas ravaged by the fire and extended Rs 400,000 on behalf of the organization.

Phombo handed over the amount to Area Administration Office Sankranti Bazaar Chief, Safal Portel, and Sankranti Bazaar Chamber of Commerce and Industry President, Prem Poudel, on Wednesday.


The money was fundraised among the Nepali diaspora in Hong Kong. The organization also provided Rs 217,000 in support to nine families in Khamlalung.


On December 16, a massive fire ripped through the Sankranti Bazaar destroying 24 houses and causing partial damages to five more houses. A total of 73 families were rendered homeless while inflicting a loss equivalent to Rs 140 million. RSS
