Nepali farmers, agriculture experts attend training on organic farming in India

KATHMANDU, Feb 22: As part of India-Nepal new partnership in agriculture, the second group of 20 Nepali farmers and agriculture experts are currently undergoing a month long training at the National Centre of Organic Farming (NCOF) Ghaziabad in India from February 1 to March 2.

KATHMANDU, Feb 22: As part of India-Nepal new partnership in agriculture, the second group of 20 Nepali farmers and agriculture experts are currently undergoing a month long training at the National Centre of Organic Farming (NCOF) Ghaziabad in India from February 1 to March 2.


The first group of 20 Nepali participants had successfully completed their training at NCOF, Ghaziabad from November 15 to December 14 last year. According to Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, the main objectives for the training are – to promote certified Organic Farming for improvement of soil health; to share impact of organic farming on produce quality, productivity, soil health and environment; to ensure supply of organic input through establishment of bio-fertilizer and bio-pesticides production unit; capacity building in soil testing and organic certification through human resource development (HRD) of Nepali experts and farmers.

The India-Nepal New Partnership in Agriculture was launched by the Prime Ministers of India and Nepal in April 2018 during the visit of Nepali Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to India.


Later in June 2018, Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development of Nepal Chakrapani Khanal visited the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) at Pusa, in New Delhi and the National Centre of Organic Farming, Ghaziabad as well as held delegation level talks with his counterpart Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare of India Radha Mohan Singh.
