KATHMANDU, Aug 5: Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) on Monday surged 40.76 points to close at 2,796.38 points.
The market opened at 2,755.62 points and hit 2,794.25 points in the first three minutes. As of the midway of the trading hours, the index hovered around 2,770 points. The index rose to the day’s high at 2,806.69 points when an hour of the trading time was left. The market shed around 10 points in the remaining period before it closed for the day.

The sensitive index, which measures the performance of ‘A’ class companies, decreased 0.97 points. The daily turnover increased slightly to Rs 21.86 billion from Rs 21.71 billion on Thursday.
Seven groups were the gainers, with hotels and tourism adding the highest of 488.31 points to its index, while five others also gained three-digit values. Of the six losers, finance lost the highest of 164.71 points.
Among individual companies, 163 were recorded as gainers whereas 78 were the losers.
Himalayan Reinsurance Limited had the largest turnover of its shares worth Rs 1.26 billion. Eight companies including Ru Ru Jalbidhyut Pariyojana Limited, CEDB Hydropower Development Company, Sagarmatha Jalabidhyut Company, Kutheli Bukhari Small Hydropower Limited, Bhagawati Hydropower Development Company, Mathillo Mailun Khola Jalvidhyut Limited, Vision Lumbini Urja Company and Muktinath Krishi Company added the highest value of 10 percent of their market values. Nepal Finance Ltd was recorded as the highest loser.
