Nepse slips 2.57 points; daily turnover falls to Rs 777.08 million

KATHMANDU, Dec 13: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) on Tuesday fell slightly by 2.57 points to close at 1,899.70 points.


The secondary market opened at 1,902.27 points and went as high as 1,904.75 points. The market however then plunged to the day’s low at 1,888.96 points before recovering by around two points to close for the day.

According to stockbrokers, the market index fell on Tuesday after the banks decided not to change interest rates on the deposits and loans. Earlier, Nepal Rastra Bank and commercial banks had hinted at revising the interest rates, citing an ease in the liquidity situation in the banks.


The daily turnover amount dropped heavily to Rs 777.08 million from Rs 1.366 billion on Monday. In the intraday trading, a total of 104 companies lost in their market value while 90 companies gained in their share prices.


The sensitive index that measures the performance of blue chips companies also declined by 1.63 points. Out of the 13 trading groups, only four including hydropower, microfinance, non-life insurance and mutual fund gained in the average market value.  


In individual companies, Nabil Bank Limited posted the largest transaction of its shares worth Rs 71.75 million. Terhathum Power Company Limited was the top loser while CYC Nepal Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited gained the highest percent of its market value.
