New law makes license mandatory to become an engineer

KATHMANDU, July 20: A bill to amend the Nepal Engineering Council Act, 1999 has been passed by the Federal Parliament.


In the passed bill, it is mainly stipulated that in order to become an engineer, after completing the studies up to graduation, one should get a license and pass the exam to get the license.

According to the bill, engineers will also get a license, like doctors, nurses, lawyers, teachers, from the Nepal Engineering Council only after passing the license exam. Engineers can practice only after getting a license.


The bill, which was registered on 2nd June 2019, was passed by the National Assembly on 30th December 2019 and sent to the House of Representatives. It was passed by the House of Representatives 30 months after being passed by the National Assembly.
