CHITWAN, Jan 13: A new mother died due to excessive bleeding 12 hours after delivering a baby girl at the remote Lotharko VDC- 9 in the district.

Subimaya Tamang died due to nonstop bleeding that started after the delivery.

His wife Subimaya gave birth to a baby girl, her second child, at 7 pm on Wednesday.

The villagers of Kanda VDC, a remote village which is almost seven hours walk from district headquarters Baratpur, have to walk up and down a hilly trail for up to three hours to reach a health post.

In the Chepang community, expecting mothers go to a nearby filed to deliver the baby after their labor pain begins.

“Subimaya had rushed to the maize filed as soon as she suffered labor pain. She returned home carrying a baby girl after few hours,” husband Mangal Bahadur told Republica Online over telephone.

According to Balkrishna Thapaliya, head teacher of Kandeshwari Primary School, Subimaya could have been saved if there had been a health post in the village.

She had given birth to a son three years ago.
