KATHMANDU, Dec 31: The amendment bill of the Plant Protection Act has envisaged a fine of up to Rs 150,000 for anyone who is involved in importing and exporting infected plants or plant products.
The proposed bill, which is currently under the clause-wise discussion in the Parliamentary Agriculture Committee, stresses the need to bring strong legal provisions for import and export of plants and plant products by enforcing proper measures.

Nepal first introduced Plant Protection Act in 2007 with the view to promote trade in plants and plant products by applying various measures.
According to the proposed bill, one found guilty in destroying plants and seeds without meeting the required criteria set by the government will face action up to 150,000.
