Since 2021, the NHRC has been monitoring these protests, which seek justice for Kurmi’s abduction and property seizure. The NHRC’s Nepalgunj branch is investigating a related complaint.

An investigation committee formed by the home ministry on October 19, 2021, recommended prosecuting those responsible, but agreements made with the protesters have not been implemented.

Ruby Khan has been on a hunger strike in Kathmandu since June 7. The NHRC team visited her at Bir Hospital on June 19 to gather information.

The NHRC has asked the home ministry to provide, within seven days, details of the agreements and the progress on implementing the committee’s recommendations, as per Article 249 of the Constitution.
