KATHMANDU, Jan 12: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Sunday demanded the government to carry out a fair probe into the killing of environment conservation campaigner, Om Prakash Mahato (Dilip).
In a press statement, the human rights body also urged the government to take action against those involved in the Mahato's murder.

Mahato was crushed to death by a tipper at Aurahi rivulet on January 10 for raising voice against illegal extraction of construction aggregates.
"We draw the attention of the government to take action against the guilty after carrying out a fair and effective probe into the killing of Mahato. We urge the government to provide compensation to the victim's family."
NHRC Chairperson Anupraj Sharma said that the NHRC has been closely observing its legal process calling the incident very unfortunate.
NHRC's Province 2 office has already left towards the incident site to get details regarding the incident. Meanwhile, a team of environment conservation campaigners submitted a memorandum to NHRC chair Sharma, demanding action against the guilty of the Dhanusha incident.
