Nine dead and three injured in disasters in Taplejung in FY 2023/24

TAPLEJUNG, July 19: During the fiscal year 2023/24, nine people died and three others were injured in 64 disaster incidents in Taplejung, according to the District Administration Office's annual progress report for the fiscal year.

TAPLEJUNG, July 19: During the fiscal year 2023/24, nine people died and three others were injured in 64 disaster incidents in Taplejung, according to the District Administration Office's annual progress report for the fiscal year.


District Administration Office Information Officer and Assistant Chief District Officer Tanka Bahadur Bhattarai reported that six people had died from lightning, floods, and landslides in the previous fiscal year, 2022/23.


In FY 2023/24, 64 private houses were completely destroyed by natural disasters. In comparison, 58 houses were completely destroyed and two were partially damaged in FY 2022/23.

The District Disaster Management Committee distributed Rs 2.48 million in relief in FY 2023/24, compared to Rs 1.518 million in the previous fiscal year. The chief district officer chairs the district disaster management committee.


Increase in complaints of abuse of authority; decrease in indecent behavior cases


Complaints of abuse of authority increased in FY 2023/24, with 10 complaints registered compared to six in FY 2022/23. However, cases of indecent behavior decreased slightly, with 23 cases reported in FY 2023/24, down from 25 the previous year. The administration reported no pending cases.


Increase in organization registrations; decrease in renewals


The number of new organization registrations increased in Taplejung, with 15 organizations registered in FY 2023/24, up from nine the previous year. However, renewals decreased, with 62 institutions renewed in FY 2023/24, compared to 75 in FY 2022/23.


The renewal and renaming of weapons also saw an increase, with 48 weapons renewed and six renamed in FY 2023/24, compared to 44 renewals and one replacement in the previous fiscal year. Additionally, 84 minor identity cards were issued in FY 2023/24, up from 79 in FY 2022/23.
