KATHMANDU, July 20: Nine fringe political parties representing both democratic and communist political ideologies have announced a joint national movement against the government with a view to pressurizing it to end external encroachments on Nepal’s religion and culture.

Speaking at the press conference, Secretary-general of Communist Party of Nepal(Marxist-Lennist) CP Mainali said they have announced what they have termed ‘United National Movement’ aimed at ending foreign intervention in the country’s internal affairs.
Likewise, on the occasion, the vice-chairperson of Nepali Congress (BP) Jhalak Wagle said that the movement is aimed at ending all the activities being carried out in the name of federalism that have weakened national identity.
Meanwhile, accusing the government of distributing citizenship certificates to non-Nepalis, he also called for the formation of a judicial panel to conduct probe into the alleged misuse of citizenship distribution.
The nine fringe parties that have announced a national movement against the government include Communist Party of Nepal(Marxist-Lennist) led by CP Mainali, Nepali Congress(BP) led by Haribol Bhattarai, and National Democratic Forum led by Devi Prasad Ojha, among others.
They also accused the government of being apathetic towards the solution to the problems the flood and landslide victims are afflicted with.
