KATHMANDU, Feb 26:  Nepal Medical Council (NMC) has started the process to grill the doctors of Norvic International Hospital for their utter negligence while operating on a patient.

Doctors Prabin Nepal and Sailej Ranjitkar of the hospital had conducted the surgery on the right leg of Bindu Poudel of Chitwan who had a torn left leg ligament. Poudel was admitted to the hospital on Friday upon suggestions from her relatives in Kathmandu.

Lab reports including medical resonance imaging (MRI) had clearly shown that Poudel needed a left leg ligament surgery.

“NMC has launched an investigation into the controversy,” said Dr Dilip Sharma, registrar at NMC, “We have called the doctors on Tuesday to learn more about the incident.”

We will reach a conclusion after completing the investigation," he added.

In a written agreement reached with the victim's relatives, doctors Nepal and Ranjitkar of the hospital have already acknowledged the surgery mistake and assured the victim of providing all treatment, according to the hospital administration.

Executive director at the hospital, Rajendra Bahadur Singh and doctors acknowledged this in an agreement signed with the relatives of the victim. Kishor Poudel, the husband of the victim and relatives Saroj Dahal and Thakur Prasad Wasti have signed the agreement.

Acknowledging its mistake in the treatment process, the hospital administration has assured of providing free ligament treatment and other nerve-related treatments to the patient in the future. The hospital administration has also agreed to bear the medical expenses even if the family prefers treatment abroad.

Poudel of Chitwan came to Kathmandu after doctors in Chitwan referred her to go to the capital city for the surgery. She was injured when her scooter fell on her knee when she was parking it.

The 38-year-old knee patient had also repeatedly told the doctors that the problem was in her left knee, according to her family members. But the doctors 'mistakenly' conducted surgery of her right leg.
