KATHMANDU, March 29: Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has proposed declaring a public holiday on Sunday. The corporation has written a letter to the government, proposing giving one more day off to reduce fuel consumption by reducing the use of public and government vehicles.
According to Binitmani Upadhyay, Spokesperson for NOC, a letter has been written to the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies to consider such measures to save the corporation from the impact of fuel price hike. He said that except for the most urgent areas, government and private vehicles should be enforced with odd and even rules and a public holiday should be given on Sundays as well.

The corporation submitted a 10-point demand letter to the ministry that included a demand to reduce customs duty, value added tax and infrastructure development fee on petroleum products. The corporation has demanded the government to reduce the value added tax on petroleum by Rs 15 per liter and gas by Rs 200.
Similarly, the corporation has also demanded the government to provide an additional amount of money required to pay for the purchase of fuel, allow the price to increase as the buying price increases and allow all types of vehicles to operate at full capacity.
