GORKHA, May 3: Candidates from different political parties in Gorkha district filed their nominations on Tuesday for the first phase of local elections slated for May 14.
Parties like Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML, CPN (Maoist Center), Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and Naya Shakti Nepal started registering their candidates from 12 pm onwards. Candidates along with local cadres and leaders of various parties reached the Election Office in Gorkha Municipality to file their nominations.
Rajan Raj pant of NC, Bisheshwor Kattel of CPN-UML, Gyanendra Kumal of Naya Shakti Nepal and Saroj Kunwar of RPP have filed their candidacy for the post of mayor in Gorkha Municipality. As told by Assistant Election Officer Govinda Prasad Ghimire, Janak Bahadur Basnet has filed his candidacy as an independent candidate for the post of mayor. Similarly, Bina shrestha of NC, Samjhana Devkota of CPN-UML, Kanchan Kumal of CPN (Maoist Center, Samjhana Lamichhane of RPP, and Purna Maya Banta of Naya Shakti Nepal have filed their candidacy for the post of deputy mayor. Likewise, Nil Bahadur Ghatane has filed his candidacy as an independent candidate for the same post.
Candidates file nominations amid celebratory mood in Chitwan
In Gorkha municipality -6, Bhai Chandra Shrestha has forwarded his candidacy for the post of ward chairperson. Likewise, Dipak Babu Kandel of NC, Juddha Bilas Bhandari of CPN-UML, Bibash Chintan of Maoist Center, Rajan Devkota of RPP and Ashok Devkota of Naya Shakti registered their candidacy for the post of mayor in Palungtar Municipality whereas, Chet Kumari Shrestha of NC, Radhika Kandel of CPN-UML, Pampha Basel of Maoist Center, Radhika Kumal of RPP and Devi Giri of Naya Shakti are the candidates for deputy mayor.
In Gorkha, there are two municipalities and 11 rural municipalities which consist of 94 wards altogether. As many as 171,442 voters are expected to participate in the local elections in Gorkha.
