KATHMANDU, Jan 14: Departmental team Nepal Police Club (NPC)’s Syantu Shrestha and Nabita Shrestha have won the singles titles of the 39th Huawei National Table Tennis Tournament under the National Sports Council (NSC) Championship on Saturday.
Syantu became the champion for two consecutive times in men’s singles, while Nabita won the women’s singles for seven times in a row. The national record in the women’s singles for the highest win is eight times by Sijrin Shah in the South Asian Games (SAG).

In the men’s singles matches played at the National Table Tennis Training Center at Lainchaur, Syantu won the gold medal defeating NPC’s Binesh Khaniya in straight sets of 11-5, 11-4, 11-9, and 11-9. Armed Police Force (APF)’s Purshotam Bajracharya and NPC’s Pradeep Roka won the bronze medals.
Likewise, in women’s singles category, Nabita bagged the gold medal beating NPC’s Alina Maharjan in straight sets of 12-10, 11-1, 11-2, and 12-10. Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC)’s Rabina Maharjan and Dikshya Tamang won the bronze medals.
Meanwhile, in mixed doubles, the pair of Chandan Shahi and Swekshya Nemwang of TAC won the gold medals. The Army pair overcame APF’s Amar Lal Malla and Selisha Khadgi 11-6, 8-11, 11-7, and 11-9. APF’s Purshotam Bajracharya and Sikka Suwal and NPC’s Syantu and Alina won the bronze medals.
NPC won gold medals in six categories out of seven. Earlier, NPC’s Syantu and Deep Saun, and Nabita and Alina Maharjan won gold medals in men’s and women’s singles categories, respectively. NPC had won golds in the team events of both men’s and women’s singles.
