KATHMANDU, Dec 20: Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) on Wednesday selected Ncell to use residual frequency spectrum through auction, ending the long-running impasse.
The NTA, under the chairmanship of Purushottam Khanal, picked the private company out of the two contenders that involved the state-owned Nepal Telecom. The move has paved the way for Ncell to use the residual spectrum in 1800 MHz band.

However, the private GSM operator will be allowed to use the frequency only after it clears its capital gains tax dues, according to the authority.
In the third round of auction, Ncell bid Rs 58 million for the spectrum higher than Rs 50.01 million that the NT had offered to pay.
The spectrum will enable the concerned telecommunication operator to enhance the speed of 4G service at low cost while helping to expand its coverage.
