NUP and LSP to withdraw support to Lumbini province govt in today’s province assembly meeting

KATHMANDU, March 1: The two parties that supported Lumbini Province Chief Minister Giri are withdrawing their support in today’s provincial assembly meeting scheduled for 1 pm.

KATHMANDU, March 1: The two parties that supported Lumbini Province Chief Minister Giri are withdrawing their support in today’s provincial assembly meeting scheduled for 1 pm. 


The Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSP) and Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP) are withdrawing the support they extended earlier to the CPN-UML-led provincial government.


Santosh Kumar Pandey, a provincial assembly member of LSP from Lumbini, said that his party will withdraw the support before today's provincial assembly meeting in accordance with the decision to withdraw the support given to the government.

Pandey said that his party is going to withdraw its support to the government as an eight-party alliance has been formed at the center. Nagarik Unmukti Party has also announced to withdraw its support to the government.


However, CPN (Maoist Center) will not immediately withdraw its support to the government. Leader of the Maoist Center Parliamentary Party, Jokh Bahadur Mahara, said that they are planning to wait until the presidential election.


In Lumbini, UML's Giri became the Chief Minister with the support of 58 MPs including those belonging to the UML, the Maoist Centre, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Nagarik Unmukti Party (NPA), Janamat Party, Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP), LSP and two independent MPs.


In today’s provincial assembly meeting, Provincial Assembly Speaker is scheduled to read out the letters received from the Office of the Provincial head regarding 'reorganization of the cabinet and division of work', the members of the provincial assembly will speak at a special time and the annual report of the Attorney General’s Office will be presented to the assembly by Chief Minister Leela Giri.


Health Minister Bishnu Prasad Panthi will present an ordinance on the establishment, operation, renovation and upgrading of health institutions.
