KATHMANDU, Jan 21: While arguing that this is not an effective method to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, transport entrepreneurs have asked the District Administration Offices (DAOs) of Kathmandu Valley to revoke their earlier decision to implement the odd-even rule for public vehicles.
Transport entrepreneurs made the request during a meeting held between the Chief District Officers (CDOs) of Kathmandu Valley on Friday. The DAOs had called the meeting to hold a discussion with the stakeholders concerned to enforce the odd-even rule for public transport effective from Friday night.

Arguing that the new rule will only increase congestion of passengers due to less number of vehicles available, the transport entrepreneurs maintained that the implementation of the odd-even rule on public transport is not a scientific way to deal with COVID-19. The transport entrepreneurs, however, said that they will abide by the decision made by the local administration.
General Secretary of the Federation of Nepali Transport Entrepreneurs Saroj Sitaula suggested that the rule could be effective if the system is not enforced in the case of public vehicles. He argued that such a rule could be implemented only in the case of private vehicles.
