RAUTAHAT, Oct 13: Police have arrested Nepali Congress lawmaker Mohammad Aftab Alam on Sunday morning in connection with a bomb explosion that occurred in Rautahat some 11 years ago.
Superintendent of Police at Rautahat District Police Office Bhupendra Khatri confirmed Alam's arrest in connection with the bomb explosion.
Rautahat District Court sends Alam to jail
Dozens were injured in the explosion that occurred in Alam's residence in Rautahat in 2008, a day before the first Constituent Assembly elections.
Later on, it was revealed that at least 22 persons were burnt alive at a Rajpur-based brick factory in Rautahat. NC leader Alam was said to be the mastermind behind the blast and subsequent murder of those 22 injured.
As part of the police investigation, two persons were arrested for their alleged involvement in the blast.
Based on the statement made by those two murder accused during the police interrogation, the police arrested NC lawmaker Alam on Sunday, some 11 years after the incident. Alam is also the former minister.
