KATHMANDU, July 15: An individual has been arrested from Gokarneshwor, Kathmandu, on the charge of human trafficking for allegedly taking people to Kuwait on a visit visa.
On the basis of a victim's complaint, a police team deployed by the Human Trafficking Investigation Bureau, Babarmahal, arrested Dengma Lama, 32, a resident of Jugal Rural Municipality-3, Sindhupalchowk.

Lama took Rs 95,000 from the victim and took the victim to Kuwait on a visit visa on October 5, 2023. Police claim that Lama's wife, residing in Kuwait, received the victim and took the victim to a Kuwaiti citizen's house for 1,150 Kuwaiti dinars.
Even the documents that Lama showed at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and at the Kuwait airport were fake and different, as reported by the police.
According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the Kuwaiti nationals held the victims hostage, exploited domestic workers without payment, and subjected the victims to sexual and severe labor exploitation.
The Kathmandu District Court has extended Lama’s custody by five days on the charge of human trafficking. An investigation into the case is ongoing, the police added.
