Arrested on human trafficking charge, rural municipality chief released on bail

KATHMANDU, May 6: Nurbu Syangbo Ghale, the chairman of Naukunda Rural Municipality, Rasuwa, who was earlier arrested on the charges of human trafficking, has been released on bail.


SSP Om Bahadur Rana, chief of the Human Trafficking Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police, said that Ghale was released after the District Government Attorney Office decided to grant him bail on appearance, allowing him to be released while ensuring he would appear at the court when necessary.

Ghale was arrested by the Bureau on April 10 during an operation to arrest individuals who were absconding after facing the charge of human trafficking. According to SSP Rana, a case was registered against Ghale in 2073 BS, but the investigation had remained pending until his recent arrest.


According to the police, the group including Ghale took a victim, who was in a poor financial condition, to New Delhi, India, with an agreement that she would be sent to Kuwait for work with a monthly salary of Rs 28,000. However, the victim was then taken to Colombo, Sri Lanka on a visit visa, where she was assaulted and held hostage, according to the investigation.
