NAWALPARASI, Sept 5: One person has died of Japanese encephalitis in Nawalpur, Nawalparasi.

According to the chief of the Health Office, Nawalpur, Keshav Prasad Chapagai, a 66-year-old woman from Kawasoti-2 succumbed to Japanese encephalitis. She passed away on August 24 after being admitted to a hospital in Chitwan on August 24 due to illness.

Chapagai said that this is the first death due to Japanese encephalitis in the district in the current fiscal year. He said that Japanese encephalitis was confirmed only after death because the test report was delayed. A patient with confirmed Japanese encephalitis is being treated at a hospital in Chitwan, said Chief of Health Office Chapagai. He said that a 15-year-old girl from Devchuli Municipality was diagnosed with Japanese encephalitis and she is being treated in the hospital's intensive care unit.

After the confirmation of Japanese encephalitis patients in two municipalities of Nawalparasi, blood samples are being collected today for testing from people around the places where the patients were discovered. In addition, an awareness program is also being conducted in the vicinity of the place with the initiative of the health office.

According to Chapagai, the main way to prevent Japanese encephalitis is to avoid mosquito bites and control mosquitoes. According to him, symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, fainting, vomiting, and body aches are seen in patients with this disease.

Chapagai said that since the risk of Japanese encephalitis will be high in the next few months, special attention should be paid to avoid mosquito bites. In 1978, this disease was observed for the first time in Rupandehi district.
