BUTWAL, May 3: Four opposition parties in Lumbini Province have announced to initiate legal and political battle against the Chief Minister(CM) Shankar Pokharel.

Organizing a joint press conference on Monday, the main opposition party, Nepali Congress, CPN (Moist Center), Janata Samajbadi Party and Rastriya Janamorcha Party alleged that a leader from the party that lacked majority in the assembly had been appointed and sworn in as the Chief Minister of the Lumbini Province. The opposition parties have warned Chief Minister Pokharel of legal actions.

The opposition parties have  maintained that the appointment of Pokharel as CM of the Lumbini Province was an anti-democratic move. “Despite our submission of the signature of 42 lawmakers, CPN-UML, which has support of only 37 lawmakers, appointed Shankar Pokharel as the CM of the province,” said Birendra Kanaudiya, a parliamentary party member of Nepali Congress. “They have murdered democracy.”

Likewise, Kul Prasad KC, Parliamentary Party leader of the CPN (Maoist Center) in the Provincial Assembly, maintained that the opposition parties won’t let the minority government survive any longer.

Shankar Pokharel was re-appointed as the Chief Minister of Lumbini Province soon after he resigned from his position some six hours ago on Sunday.
