KATHMANDU, Dec 17: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has said that he has conveyed the message that it is not possible for the NC to function in the status quo, not only to the party leaders and cadres but also to the ordinary Nepalis.

Issuing a statement on Friday, Dr Koirala said that though he was defeated in the election for the post of party president under the 14th general convention of NC, he was able to win hearts. “Despite being defeated by a few votes, we have managed to win the hearts of our delegates and all democrats.”

Stating that the battle of transformation and change within the party was not easy for him, he said he was not only competing with the current president Sher Bahadur Deuba. “We were fighting against the apolitical tendency and wrong culture that grew and flourished within the party. We were fighting against factions and divisions within the party and against the decision to go against the constitution in a dark room in the name of the party,” he added.

He further said, “Taking victory and defeat in party elections as natural, we will continue to be active in the agenda of the transformation of the Congress.”
