KATHAMNDU, April 9: Parliamentary Party (PP) leader of the Nepali Congress (NC) Gandaki Province Surendraraj Pandey has lodged a writ petition in the Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday demanding the annulment of the appointment of the newly-appointed Chief Minister of Gandaki Province. Pandey is the outgoing Chief Minister of the Gandaki Province.
The apex court has scheduled the hearing on the writ petition for Wednesday.
Hearing on IGP appointment case to continue tomorrow
Pandey has demanded the SC to quash the appointment of the newly-appointed Chief Minister Khagraj Adhikari, who assumed office on Monday. Adhikari was able to make it to the position with support from Krishna Dhital, who became the Speaker from the CPN (Maoist Center).
It is argued that the appointment of Chief Minister with the backing of the Speaker Dhital is unconstitutional.
Province Chief Dilli Raj Bhatta appointed Adhikari as the chief minister with the support of two parties under Article 168 (2) of the Constitution on Sunday.
The support of 31 members of the provincial assembly - 22 from the CPN-UML, 8 from the Maoist Center, and one independent provincial member - was submitted to the province chief to make Adhikari the chief minister.
