Over 100,000 Pfizer vaccines donated by the US arrive in Nepal

KATHMANDU, Oct 25: The United States of America has donated as many as 100,620 doses of Pfizer vaccines against COVID-19 to Nepal today. 

The vaccines were handed over by USAID mission director for Nepal, Sepide Kevansad to Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) Dr Roshan Pokhrel amidst a special function organized on Monday. The vaccines will be stocked at the Department of Health Services in Teku along with the other vaccines.

Addressing the function, Director Kevansad said that the US is very happy to be able to help Nepal control the spread of the deadly virus by providing vaccines to the Himalayan nation. While highlighting the importance of proper structures to store and distribute vaccines to the public in a managed way, Kevansad said that he felt proud to be able to help Nepal. 

Kevansad recalled that a total of 1.53 million doses of J&J vaccines were donated by the US to Nepal in June. He also said that the US had already provided health materials worth USD 102.2 million to Nepal so far to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking on the occasion, Secretary Dr Pokhrel expressed gratitude to the US for providing over 100,000 doses of vaccines to Nepal.
