KATHMANDU, June 4: The Election Commission (EC) has spent Rs 4.73 billion so far in elections management. According to the details compiled by the election body, nearly half of the total funds allotted by the government has already been spent. The expenditure, however, includes some of costs incurred for logistical arrangement for the second round of elections scheduled for June 28.

“We have already printed ballot papers, voter roll and voter ID cards for the second round of elections. So, we hope the expenses will not be much high for conducting the second round of election,” said EC Spokesperson Surya Prasad Sharma.
EC officials say they will have to bear expenses for polling officers and other staffers. The government has provided Rs 10 billion to the commission for conducting local elections. This amount does not include the cost of security arrangement.
