PADT sees tree plantation

KATHMANDU, August 9: A tree transplantation program was held today at the Pashupatinath area, the UNESCO world heritage site, with a view to promoting the ecological conservation of the area.

KATHMANDU, August 9: A tree transplantation program was held today at the Pashupatinath area, the UNESCO world heritage site, with a view to promoting the ecological conservation of the area.


The program commemorating the Soil Conservation Day, was a collaborative effort of the Ministry of Forest and Environment, Lions Club of Kathmandu, New Waves and the Pashupati Area Development Trust.

On the occasion, Minister for Forest and Environment Shakti Bahadur Basnet said the government was committed to protecting and promoting the ecological life of the PADT. He spoke of the need for combined efforts among the government, stakeholder concerned and the mass to fight side effects of environmental pollution.


On the occasion, saplings of over 200 species were planted. According to PADT chief administrative officer Gauri Shankar Parajuli, the Trust will take care of plated trees.


It may be noted that the government has announced the current fiscal year as the Reforestation Year with a target of planting at least 500 million new trees across the country.
