Para Taekwondo player Mahata to compete in Paris Paralympics

KATHMANDU, June 19: Para Taekwondo player Bharat Singh Mahata is going to compete in the Paris Paralympics 2024 being held in France. He got a wild card entry to the mega sporting event.

KATHMANDU, June 19: Para Taekwondo player Bharat Singh Mahata is going to compete in the Paris Paralympics 2024 being held in France. He got a wild card entry to the mega sporting event.


According to the Nepal Taekwondo Association, Mahata will compete in the men's under 58 kg weight group under the K-44 category in the Paralympics.


The 27-year-old Mahata from Apihimal Rural Municipality-8 in Darchula has the experience of playing two international tournaments so far. He participated in the Asian selection for the Paris Olympics held in China and in the 9th Asian Para Taekwondo Tournament held in Vietnam.

Along with Mahata, the number of athletes representing Nepal in taekwondo in the Paris Paralympics has reached two. Palesha Govardhan has already been selected for the Paris Paralympics. Palesha earned a berth after passing through the qualifying stage.


She will compete in the women's under 57 kg weight group in the K-44 category. Palesha is the first Nepali athlete to participate in the Paralympics through competitive means.


The Paris Paralympics is being held in Paris, France from August 28 to September 8 later this year. RSS
