Parliamentary committee to call home minister for discussion on amnesty issue

KATHMANDU, Oct 2: The Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee of the House of Representatives is going to call Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha to address the issue of presidential pardons granted on Constitution Day.

KATHMANDU, Oct 2: The Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee of the House of Representatives is going to call Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha to address the issue of presidential pardons granted on Constitution Day.


In a meeting held on Monday, the committee decided to request Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Shrestha to explain the annulment of the prison sentence by the President, based on the Council of Ministers' recommendation on Constitution Day.

Chairperson of the committee Bimala Subedi said that Home Minister will be called to the Committee at a time convenient for the minister. Individuals have expressed dissatisfaction with the President’s pardon for people who were serving time in prison for heinous crimes.


The committee has also decided to ask the home minister for an answer on the issue of juvenile correctional homes.
