KATHMANDU, March 19: The meeting of the Agriculture and Water Resources under the Legislature-Parliament today has decided to hold discussions with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on the issues of land acquisition and use of forest land for the hydro project as inter-government bodies were failing to coordinate in the issues.

The committee meeting today decided to hold the discussions with PM as there were lack of coordination among the Ministries and other bodies to run the project properly.

The meeting discussed on various hurdles seen in running hydro projects and has directed the Energy Ministry to forward the bill regarding to Energy Crisis Mitigating Bill and Bill Regarding to Energy Security, shared committee President Mohan Baral.

Most of the lawmakers at the meeting drew the attention of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) to the predicaments being undergone by consumers while paying electricity bills.

They also draw the attention of the NEA to the fact that consumers are forced to walk more than three days in some cases to reach nearby NEA branch office and spend more than Rs 400 to pay the bills.

They also called for ending such problems facing customers. In response, NEA Managing Director Kul Man Ghising informed that efforts were on to introduce smart meters as a model project in Kathmandu valley.

Consumers can pay electricity tariffs from home following the introduction of the smart meters, he said. RSS
