KATHMANDU, August 26: The Department of Passport (DoP) in Tripureshwor has announced to open its underground area for parking facilities for its service seekers from August 28.

The decision comes after a team of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) led by Maor Balen Shah removed chairs and other things dumped at its basement area on Friday.

The DoP in a statement on Friday said that it will use the underground area as a parking facility. The DoP will open the basement area for service seekers from Sunday.

While requesting all concerned not to park their vehicles on the streets outside, the DoP has asked only service seekers to visit the office to avoid crowds. "In the past, the basement of this Department was used as a holding area for passport applicants, But from August 28, it will be used as a parking lot for service seekers," said a statement issued by the DoP.

Earlier, KMC had requested the DoP to vacate the basement area for parking. The KMC had to intervene as the DoP did not give heed to its request.
