BAITADI, June 30: A people's representative and a local of Melauli Municipality are on a hunger strike demanding expansion of electricity. Ward member of Melauli Municipality-9 Bhim Dutta Bhatta and others are on a hunger strike saying electricity expansion has not taken place in the village. He said that the hunger strike was opted on the recommendation of locals as the supply of electricity has not reached the village.
Bhatta said that the locals had to lose their lives in leopard attacks due to lack of electricity. Ward member Bhatta said that they have been fasting since Monday morning in the yard of Melauli Municipality building. Ward member Bhatta and local Bam Bahadur Chand are on strike.

They have demanded to take initiative for the expansion of electricity from Ward no. 8 and 9 of Melauli Municipality to Bhageshwor of Dadeldhura. “We will go on a hunger strike until a commitment is made to expand electricity within this fiscal year,” said ward member Bhatta. “It is our demand that the work be carried out by allocating budget for its implementation.”
Mayor of the municipality Krishna Singh Nayak said that the municipality is taking initiative for the expansion of electricity. He informed that the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has already started the process for the construction of the substation and the municipality was coordinating for the work to be done as soon as possible.
