KATHMANDU, Feb 28: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal again urged Madhes-based parties to participate in the local elections by putting the constitution amendment bill on hold.
Prime Minister held a meeting with Nepali Congress and Madhesi leaders on Tuesday at his official residence Baluwatar and made the request.
RPP urges to put statute amendment bill on hold
According to Keshav Jha, the general secretary of National Madhes Socialist Party, PM asked them to come up with common view on whether they want to put the constitution amendment bill on hold and go to the local level election or to move forward with the bill and participate in the election whatever result comes from the parliament.
As the government is being unable to garner two-third majority in the parliament to endorse the amendment bill, PM Dahal urged Madhes-based parties to participate in the local election without completing the process of amendment.
"PM said that he doesn't want to see the bill failed from the House and wants to put the bill on hold," said Jha.
According to Jha, NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, by the meantime, informed that he is holding a meeting with Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Kamal Thapa on Tuesday to convince him on endorsing the bill.
"As NC President Deuba himself asked for some time, the meeting concluded inconclusive. The United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) will make a common understanding on the issues and meet the PM soon," said Jha.
