KATHMANDU, Jan 5: Prime Minister and Chancellor of Tribhuvan University (TU), Pushpa Kamal Dahal has directed the Education Minister to correct the advertisement announced for Vice-Chancellor and advertise it again.

PM Dahal summoned Minister for Education, Science and Technology and Pro-Chancellor of TU, Ashok Kumar Rai, at his office on Friday and directed him to correct provisions in the advertisement and issue it again. He reminded that he was for a qualified person living in any place of the world to lead the TU for its reform, and he/she would come through open competition.

PM Dahal expressed concern over a provision in the vacancy call that could bar the entry of qualified persons in the competition.

The vacancy call published on Friday had mentioned the criteria: 'a certified copy of at least three years' experience (with clear mention of year, month and day) of those working as university office bearers was required'. The PM's attention was drawn to this very criterion, according to the PM's secretariat.

The head of the government argued that these criteria would bracket some, while bar others, discouraging competition among qualified and competent persons.
