PM Oli to receive COVID-19 vaccine tomorrow, marking commencement of second phase of vaccination drive

KATHMANDU, March 6: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is scheduled to be vaccinated against the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on Sunday. 


According to Dr Jageshwar Gautam, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), the vaccination of PM Oli will mark the beginning of the second phase of the COVID-19 vaccination drive.

Oli will receive the vaccine against the viral disease at the Maharajgunj-based Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) at 10AM tomorrow.  


The government plans to vaccinate as many as 1.6 million senior citizens above 65 years of age in the second phase of COVID-19 vaccination campaign to be conducted at more than 6,000 vaccination centers across the country. Similarly, people above 55 will be administered the vaccine against the disease in 15 districts in the mountainous region.


Nepal launched the first phase of the vaccination campaign on January 27 earlier this year and administered vaccines to the frontline workers.
