KATHMANDU, March 7: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has expressed sorrow over the Saptari incident on Tuesday that saw deaths of three protesters in police firing.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony of the reconstructed Kakling Bauddha Bihar in Ghyansukathor VDC of Dolakha on Tuesday, the prime minister also asked all the political parties not to be involved in any activities that could affect the local polls. The government has already announced to hold the local level election on May 14.

"The government is ready to institutionalize the rights of Madhesi, women, indigenous, Tharu and all oppressed communities in the constitution," said Prime Minister Dahal. "The Saptari incident has made me very sad."

The police had opened fire in Maleth, Saptari on Monday claiming they did so to thwart confrontation  between the UDMF and CPN-UML cadres. The CPN-UML had organized a mass meeting in Maleth as part of its Mechi-Mahakali National Campaign while the UDMF cadres were trying to disrupt the campaign.
