Police arrest 10 with banned Indian bank notes

KATHMANDU, May 26: Police have arrested 10 people involved in smuggling banned Indian bank notes of Rs 1000 and 500 into Nepal of late.

KATHMANDU, May 26: Police have arrested 10 people involved in smuggling banned Indian bank notes of Rs 1000 and 500 into Nepal of late.


The Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police arrested Bimal Gurung, Santosh Khatri, Nawaraj Basnet, Rishu Giri, Kaiya Chaudhary, Raju Thapa, Rameshwar Chaudhary, Narendra Bahadur Mahara, Bel Kumar Karki and Kumar Karki with the banned notes amounting Rs 1.84 million.

According to Meera Chaudhary, the spokesperson of the CIB, racketeers were involved in bringing those banned bank notes from Haryana, India to Nepal. This is fourth incident of police arresting people with the banned Indian bank notes.


Narendra Modi led Indian government had banned those bank notes from November 8, 2016. Indian government has already banned those bank notes attacking the black money and fake notes by giving a stimulated time to even exchange the notes.
