Police arrest murderer of 14-years girl after six years

KATHMANDU, June 26:  Police have arrested the murderer of 14 years old girl and made public him on Monday. Shyam Raut, who fled to India after rape and murder, was arrested following a joint investigation carried out by Central Regional Office, Metropolitan Police Crime Division and District Police Office, Ramechhap from Noida of India.


Suntali Tamang of Ramechhap was reported to be missing on January 19, 2012 and her body was found near Likhu River after 15 days. During the investigation, it was found that she was raped and then murdered. Raut was suspected since the beginning of the investigation. He was, however, released after few days due to the lack of strong evidence. Following the release, he fled to India.

“We kept on monitoring the activities of Raut in Andaman & Nicobar Island with the help of Indian Police”, said DIG Ganesh KC, during the press meet on Monday and added “We came to know that he was in Noida and was preparing to come to Nepal. We found him at Nepal-India border of Rupandehi district.”


Present at the press meet, mother of the victim, Dilli Maya Tamang  expressed her happiness and thanked police for bringing the criminal to justice after six years.
