KATHMANDU, Jan 6: The police have apprehended nine individuals, including senior orthopedic surgeon Dr Govind KC, for staging a protest in the prohibited area of Maitighar Mandala.

Dr KC participated in the protest at Maitighar, advocating for 'Justice to Victims of Armed Conflict, Equitable Health & Education, and Good Governance' for all Nepalis. The police took Dr KC and others into custody.
The local administration has declared the Maitighar area a protest-prohibited zone effective from November 21,. The police had duly informed Dr KC and advised him against staging any protests. However, Dr KC insisted on seeing a court order, claiming that Maitighar is not a prohibited area, and went ahead with demonstrating in the prohibited area.
