KATHMANDU, May 24: Police intervened in a demonstration organized by the family members and relatives of the Nepali nationals who have gone on to join the Russian Army. The demonstrators had gathered to protest at the Department of Consular Services in the capital.
Republica has obtained video footage showing male police officers using force against women protesters who had assembled for a sit-in at the office of the Department of Consular Services in Tripureshwor, led by activist Kriti Bhandari on Friday.

The group staged the sit-in with demands including protection for Nepalis serving in the Russian army, proper compensation for the families of the Nepalis who have died in the Russia-Ukraine war , and clarification on the status of those missing.
Upon reaching the office of Director General Prakash Mani Paudel, the protesters voiced their grievances, alleging that the Government of Nepal and the Department of Consular Services had not fulfilled their responsibilities.
"We have repeatedly requested attention to our concerns, but they have been ignored. Today, we have come to meet with the director general to bring these issues to his attention," stated activist Bhandari.
