Police into Manakamana quarters after comeback win

POKHARA, Feb 3: Departmental team Nepal Police Club has advanced into the quarterfinals of the ongoing Manakamana Cable Car Pokhara Cup with a 2-1 comeback win over the A-Division League runner-up Sankata Club in Pokhara on Saturday.

POKHARA, Feb 3: Departmental team Nepal Police Club has advanced into the quarterfinals of the ongoing Manakamana Cable Car Pokhara Cup with a 2-1 comeback win over the A-Division League runner-up Sankata Club in Pokhara on Saturday. 


Sankata took the lead in the 11th minute as Subhash Gurung gave a good through ball to Ellon Maxwell inside the box and he scored with a one-touch finish.


Police replied with a goal in the 31st minute as Nir Kumar Rai gave a backheel pass to Abhishek Rijal inside the box in a two versus one situation, and Rijal converted superbly to equalize for the departmental team.

Police got other chances to score including some set piece opportunities, but could not convert them. 


Ravi Paswan scored the winning goal in the 54th minute to seal a comeback victory for Police and send the team into the last eight. Sankata keeper Raja Babu could not judge a back pass by Tampi Ernest, and Paswan came quickly inside the box to score for Police. 


Sankata got some other chances to score, but could not convert them. Nirajan Khadka’s header after receiving a pass from Maxwell in the fifth minute of the game went wide. Laxman Ruchal hit a shot in the 21st minute, but it hit the bar after Maxwell passed the ball to him. 


Paswan was named the man of the match and was rewarded with Rs 10,000. 


Three Star Club will take on the other departmental team Armed Police Force (APF) Club on Sunday.
