KATHMANDU, Dec 16: The Police have issued arrest warrants against operators of four sugar mills for not paying the sugarcane farmers.
According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, following its direction, the concerned district police have issued arrest warrants against the operators of Indira Sugar Mill, Annapurna Sugar Mill, Shree Ram Sugar Mill and Lumbini Sugar Mill. The ministry, through a multilateral meeting on Tuesday, decided to take action against the ‘deceiving’ mills operators.

The police have stepped up its action after farmers filed complaints in the concerned police offices. District Police Office, Rautahat has issued arrest warrant against Hitesh Golchha, Bishal Agrawal and Anuj Agrawal of Shree Ram Sugar Mill.
Similarly, District Police Office, Nawalparasi, has taken the step to arrest Rakesh Agrawal, owner of Annapurna Sugar Mills in Sarlahi and Indira Sugar Mills in Nawalparasi, and Sushila Goyal, proprietor of Lumbini Sugar Mill.
Since Sunday, more than 300 farmers have been staging a sit-in protest in Kathmandu to pressurize the government to get the payments for their sold-out produce. They have been demanding that their dues worth more than 480 million rupees, which has been put on hold since past six years, be paid at the earliest.
