Police open fire to arrest drug smuggler in Pokhara

KATHMANDU, June 12: Police have fired shots to arrest a drug smuggler in process of arresting him from Uttam Chowk of Pokhara on Wednesday.

KATHMANDU, June 12: Police have fired shots to arrest a drug smuggler in process of arresting him from Uttam Chowk of Pokhara on Wednesday.


Superintendent of Police at Kaski District Police Dan Bahadur Karki told Republica Online that drug smuggler Govinda Thapa alias John was arrested on the charge of possessing a huge amount of contraband drugs.


The police fired shots in retaliation after drug smuggler Thapa opened fire, according to Karki.

Thapa, who was injured after receiving bullets on his leg, has been admitted to Paschimanchal Regional Hospital in Pokhara for treatment.


The police have seized various types of 1500 pieces of contraband drugs.


Assistant Sub Inspector of Police Santosh Subedi was also injured in the incident.
